CAMP AKIBA HISTORY
Camp Akiba, now in its 5th decade, is a camp affiliated with Temple
Akiba, a reform synagogue in Culver City, CA. Over 40 years of Camp Akiba has enriched the local community with a unique Jewish perspective that most campers take with them from childhood to parenthood.
Many Camp Akiba campers are second generation campers proving that Camp Akiba has long lasting impact on the Jewish identity of its participants. Most of the campers return year after year, and 100% of the camp staff
have grown up in the program. Most staff are volunteers who
spend a good part of their summer meeting and planning great activities
for the campers. They then dedicate their time during camp to
making sure that every camper has a safe, fun, wonderful Jewish
experience.
Camp Akiba shapes the lives of children. It offers long lasting
friendships, a chance to gain independence and self confidence,
and truly engrains within them a long lasting sense of Jewish
identity.
